West Virginia is filled with wonderful outdoor activities, but the best place to visit would have to be Fayetteville. Located in the heart of the New River Gorge, Fayettville is home to the New River Gorge Bridge, the longest single-arch span bridge in the Western Hemisphere. It also has the distinction as one of America's coolest small towns. Stop by the Canyon Rim visitor's center and get directions to Fayette Station, the ghost town at the bottom of the gorge. Park at the bottom and explore the old coal camp town. You can stay at one of the luxurious cabins at Class IV, a local white water rafting company. While there, take the time to go rafting down the New River, which anyone of any age can take part in. They just recently opened a zip line attraction, which takes you on zip lines across the gorge. For dinner, check out Smokeys on the Gorge, with breathtaking views and amazing menu. The next morning, make sure to stop by Cathedral Cafe in downtown Fayetteville for breakfast. |
