I love road trips, and I think spending time trapped alone in a car with someone you love actually isn't so bad. So when my boyfriend and I take road trips, we like to drive somewhere not too far from Boston, where we live. But this past weekend, we traveled a bit farther, to Morgantown, WV, to watch a live recording of the radio show Mountain Stage that airs in WV and also is syndicated on NPR.
Driving through the Appalachian mountains is beautiful during the fall, and that can be quite romantic in itself. I have family from West Virginia, so I'm lucky in that I always get to visit my family who lives in a beautiful all-log cabin on top of a mountain - most perfect site ever. But if you're not as lucky, accommodations in West Virginia are very inexpensive. When my boyfriend and I watched music in Morgantown, we decided to stay afterward in a nice hotel called the Water Front. It has really nice views of the river, and the town is pretty cute.
Nature is abundant in the area, and hiking and camping are wonderful activities. Also, white water rafting is a fun (albeit perhaps a bit less romantic) sport. |
